President's Message

Greetings: Everyone

As Charter President, I am proud to celebrate the 6th Anniversary of the United Nations Lions club.  Chartered on June 24th. 2001  our club was a few  weeks old when tragedy struck New York City on September 11th. 2001. As I watched the Towers of the World Trade Center come tumbling down I realized that the Skyline of New York  was changed forever.

On September 12th, lions clubs international Foundation created the September 11 Relief Fund 5048.  Our club joined the Lions of MD-20  to work for the victims of the 9/11 disaster. .

Today   "A wind of change" is sweeping  over Lionism,  Our new International President Mahendra Amarasuriya  issued a  "A challenge to change"  he continues "Traditions are wonderful and we absolutely need to hang  on to whatever is working, however, we need to change the way we do things".

Lions are now in 201 countries and geographical areas around the world  with a total of 1.3 million  members and roughly 41,000 Lions Clubs around thw world From the inception, members of the New York United Nations Lions club. have used the new technology to reach, lions  and friends around the world.

I believe  that Lions  are the inheritors of a great dream .   We are  the "Knights of the Blind" Through our work  we can save the sight of a child, or help  a senior citizen

As founder and Charter President of the New York United Nations Lions club I am proud of the  achievements of our club and  our members.

Please  visit the pages of this website , Please  join us in helping the less fortunate.

. Ingrid Leacock Charter President.
